Extending a PTO shaft?

I was wondering if any of you have ever extended your PTO shaft? The linked picture shows my woodsplitter on my VAC. As you can see, the hydraulic pump just slides onto the PTO shaft. It works fine. But here's the problem. I want to get a Saginaw hitch for my Farmall M and use the woodsplitter with that tractor. The PTO shaft has its shield in place and I would rather not remove it. Instead, I want to find a way to extend it out beyond the shield.
Any suggestions?
