For heavy tillage work (plowing, disking, etc.) bigger & heavier is always better. For loader work, you want a small tractor to get around & fit in, but you want a big heavy tractor to handle the load & not tip. You need to figure where you need to get to, & how big a machine will fit in those places. A tractor needs wheel weights to balance it for heavy tillage work - so it doesn't just spin on top of the ground. It needs weights to balance a loader - required! And it needs weights on the front to keep the front end down with heavy rear 3-point loads. Requirements for each day & chore can change. Folks generally get to a happy medium & leave it there.... I've use a post hole digger with a tiny 15hp compact import, and worked great. Easier to get the little bugger into tight corners. You need a good enough 3-point lift to pull the auger up with dirt on it. Don't need so much power to actually spin it. A heavy tractor will give you more pulling ability (plowing, etc.) and handle a bigger loader load. A small tractor will be more manuverable & easy to control. A tractor that is low, heavy, & wide will give you the most stability on hills. Kind of a general answer, but you didn't give any details either. :) I'd look at power steering, live pto, wide front, and other options as well when comparing. --->Paul

"Barry Seiler, owner of Country Town Farm Supply store used to invite people up to the Johne Deere store. He would give hats and a free meal for everyone that brings a tractor." Elliott said while this
