756 IHC running a wood splitter

I hooked my 756 IHC up to my wood splitter but it wouldn't split the really tuff knotty wood that I need it to do.
The best tractor that I had for wood splitting was an old Oliver 77 with a front mounted pump but that tractor has been sold.
What do I do???? have a John Deere 410 backhoe with a front mounted pump it may have more hyd. power but not sure where to hook up the lines.
Or should I buy a small eng. with a hyd pump not sure what to do.
