Dependent: connects to transmission, pto shaft speed is proportional to ground speed. Live: connects to flywheel through hollow input shaft. Pto speed is independent of ground speed BUT pushing in clutch stops PTO. Live Independent with 2 stage clutch: Uses 2 clutches parallel operation (mash in pedal 1/2 way stops transmission, all the way stops transmission and pto). Another type uses 2 series clutches, pull a clutch lever to stop/start pto, use pedal to stop start transmission input. Live independent with hydraulic clutches. PTO engagement lever opens and closes a hydraulic valve which closes compresses the pto clutches (Locate aft of the transmission). Hope this helps. Generally this is the reverse order of desirable (Live independent hydraulic would be the ideal).
