I do discing for fire breakes here in Calif. There are still a few large fields, and the fire department makes owners keep the land cleared so last year I bought a JD 5020 and a large disc. Now one of the cities says no more discing, only mowing, and I am sure the rest will follow. The problem is dirt being washed into wet areas and killing frogs and fish, and what ever else lives in swamps. They don't realize if the ground is disced correctly it will not wash much. This comes from the tree hugger group. Anyway I need to know if the JD 5020 is any good for pulling a mower? There are a lot of rocks in some areas. Will a flail mower be better in rocky ground, I have a 6 ft rotary mower I pull with a Massy, and it hates rocks. What would be a good size for the 5020? I don't want to spend a lot of money on a large mower and tear it up. I still have my old Allis and a 8 ft disc I am going to use next week in a city that hasen't changed the rules. No snow here
