Hi Mike, I'll give you my two cents: The standard SAE 45 deg flare (double on steel tubing) will work just fine for your power steering system. I have used it before for just such an application. Make sure you do the double flare bit though, just as you would do for a brake line. The SAE (JIC) 37 deg flare is a different standard used for hydraulic systems. It is commonly used for higher pressure systems with steel, rather than brass fittings. You would need a different flaring tool to do the 37 deg flare. The tool for doing the 45 will not flare it to the correct angle. I don't believe the JIC standard is a double flair. A problem you may encounter is the mating to your power steering pump and steering gear. Are you sure they have the seats to mate with an SAE 45 deg flare? Or are you going to re-use your existing steel tubing ends to mate with the hardware and just adapt the other ends to mate with the male pipe hose ends? My own past experience is that the steel ends on power steering hoses are usually badly rusted and not particularly suitable for re-use with new hose. Your situation may be different though. Rod
