Just went through this on a JD 318. Assuming for the moment that the electric clutch designs are similar (and I don't have a clue whether they are or not...), if the clutch turns freely by hand with the switch in the off position, something's wrong. On mine, the bracket you tighten down on to adjust the air gap is also the brake, and with the switch in the off position, you can't turn the clutch without a breaker bar. If you have the air gap set properly, and power to the clutch lead, chances are you have an open winding in the clutch itself, and you are looking at replacing the whole assembly. Be sitting down when you get the price... ":^(
