The 8Ns were made thru 1952. The large hose going into the carb is the air intake. If gas is leaking out of it, then likely the carb is either flooded or has a sticking float. Not serious unless you happen to drop a smoke which could ruin your whole day.... Get a manual, which you can order on left side of this page. Sometimes a light tap on the carb will unstick a float (don't hit it hard). Worse case, you may have to pull the carb and clean it and replace gaskets, etc. Kits are available at a variety of places including the New Holland dealers, cheap compared to a fire. Also, get in habit of turning off the gas at the sediment bowl cutoff each time you finish using the tractor, as it is safer by far for obvious reasons. Leaking gas in your barn is never good, obviously. Hope that helps some.
