Mike, I think the use of Kilometers goes back even further, to the beginning of Nato, we had to use meters and Kilometers(klicks), on range finding, call for fire, road designation, route recon etc. Its a real bear when one is taught in feet, so mentally I had to convert a distance I could eye ball in feet, to yards, then to meters, and miles to klicks, a time lag when things get hairy, for a while down here they started putting up road signs with miles and kilometers, but haven't seen any lately. Building industry still uses feet, yards, inches. My tool box is all combination, metric and SAE. American built cars started switching over to metric in the 70s, and are now about 99%. I'd say the metric system may come here some day, but right now is an albatross, that doesn't want to leave. John in Nebraska
