Todd.........electrically speaking, you'd want your resistor between the ignition switch and the ignition coil primary. Otherwize your coil will be above ground potential and you could loose up to 25% of your sparkies. Kerchoff's Law still rules. And yes, your coil will get hot to the touch when just setting there with the ignition switch on. And yes, 2 hrs of ON time will melt your coil's insulative tar and short out your windings. When your engine is running, the coil is actually OFF about 50% of the time and your fan is air cooling it anyways. The same is true with your 10 watt resistor, burnie-burnie..........Dell
