Mark........everything you say is true. EXCEPT we're dealing with inductive reactance of the collapse to the ignition coil's ironcore magnetic field to generate the ultra-high voltage for the sparkies. By putting a resistor between your coil and the points, you've actually created a RC time constant delay with the ignition points capacitor and subsequent reduction time in collapse of the magnetic field. Remember, its the collaspe of the magnetic field when the points open that creates the high voltage pulse to jump the sparkie. This is also why there are different ignition capacitors, to match the inductive reactance of the many different ignition coils. Therefore NOTHING between your ignition coil's primary and your distributor points is the way to go............respectfully, Dell
