Not to pick a fight or anything, but piston speed in feet per second inside a two cylinder can be faster than a short stroke engine turning higher rpms.
The two cylinder engines were not to be lugged or loaded past 80% rated and run at rated rpm under load. For power & economy. Lots have been run lugged to the limit, then the owner wonders why wear rates are higher. Flywheel spline loading increases when lugged & contributes to loose flywheels.
I've seen owners at shows who won't ever rev them up to rated rpm because they think they are saving the engine.
