So I ask you this -- If you have two tractors (the same model) one gas and one diesel, both have the same crankshaft with the same size bearings ,the gas has a little smaller bore(normally),why would it make a difference if you lugged them both the same. By slowing them down you are giving the burning gasses more time to expand-which is what gives the better economy in the first place. As for the 2cly JD's they only run 900-1200 so naturally they are a high torque motor at any rpm.
