As far as that goes, about 50% of the men on both sides that were drafted, didn't go to war.
Of those who went, about 50% deserted at one time or another. Who are you desended from? My ancestors came over in the 1880's. I had nothing to do with slavery, stealing land, or the Holocaust. Get over it.
