Frank - those coupling bolts are tapered between the end of the threads and the underside of the head. They can be a stinker to get loose from the rubber bushings. A combination of turning and prying (and possibly application of a bit of heat) is req'd to get the bolts loose.

Unless the bushings have deteriorated so the coupling bolts and intermediate spider have been torn up by metal-to-metal contact, all you should need to replace is the rubber bushings to make the coupling like new.
