Until you get the tire dismounted enough that you can look inside, there's no way to know what the remedy is.
If it's through to the inside there's not much you can do. In many cases the outside of the tire is cracked and nasty but the inside carcass looks like new.
Nothing is going to hold together a rotten and split sidewall. A tube will keep air in it so long as the split isn't too bad inside. The tube will push through the split, get pinched, and foof! A boot or a patch will only insulate the tube from the split. They won't hold the split together so if it gets worse...
