Asking for date of birth when picking up a prescription is common practice. It's not an invasion of privacy. They already know what your DOB is. They're just confirming that it's actually you picking it up.
The same thing occurs at all doctor and medical appointments. They're just making sure they have the right person.
I've never been asked for it when buying spray paint.
