Hello kniveton welcome to YT! You simply remove the muffler and remove the 12 bolts shown as number 1 in the diagram of the attached link. However it is not always simple due to time, heat and rust as others have pointed out. If you are having a specific problem you need to give us details on that. You will also probably want to pull the hood. If I remember right there is a release lever behind the radiator screen on each side and a nut towards the rear of the engine side opening up behind the John Deere badges. Good luck!
