how to remove broken exhaust manifold from head

You will have to explain what you have there. Broken manifold or broken bolts or whatever else is the issue. We'll help you through it if you explain it a bit better and post a picture.

Well you need to tell us what you are working on. A wild guess, if it is a gasoline tractor, is to remove the carburetor from its connections
(choke cable, fuel inlet, governor connection, and bolts to the manifold. Next, remove the muffler or exhaust pipe, next remove the bolts
holding the manifold system to the head. Splitting the two manifolds may encounter broken off bolts from rust!!.
If a diesel, it is likely necessary only to remove the muffler, then unbolt it from the head! Jim

Jim and Dave mention broken bolts which may very well be your issue. ProMaxx Tools of Pittsburgh makes tools that can extract broken bolts etc. Yes, you will write a
check for the tool kit, but you can very well save many hours of time and possibly a hefty bill from the machine shop for work on the engine head.

What you working on??? Lack of info makes it impossible to help you help your self since there is probably at least 1000 different engine if not MORE

U are not giving any info to us.i can say unbolt the manifold and install a
new one , is that correct I don’t know what ur after.

If you are reusing the muffler remove that first while it is still fastened, unless you caught it on something. Since the manifold is held on with bolts I take a large hammer and punch and beat on the bolts
straight on, this will loosen them from the manifold and shock the threads to loosen up. No love taps a few good hits then try to see if they loosened up at all. No movement keep swinging. Also a 3/8 impact on
the low setting and slightly rattle them a bit. I have better luck with the hammer and punch and working the bolt slowly, and even once it moves I still tap on them.

Heat each bolt head red hot then let them cool see if they will
turn it not do it again . A few good smack on the head of each
bolt will also help

Hello kniveton welcome to YT! You simply remove the
muffler and remove the 12 bolts shown as number 1
in the diagram of the attached link. However it is not
always simple due to time, heat and rust as others
have pointed out. If you are having a specific problem
you need to give us details on that. You will also
probably want to pull the hood. If I remember right
there is a release lever behind the radiator screen on
each side and a nut towards the rear of the engine
side opening up behind the John Deere badges.
Good luck!

Is it possible you've already broken a few bolts? If that's the case, STOP NOW until you have an oxyacetylene torch on hand; the bolts will come out easily if you get them hot. By hot, I mean the bolt heads need to glow cherry red. A propane torch won't cut it. Once you have the manifold off you'll need to deal with the broke bolts, but that's a new thread.

JOHN DEERE 4030 DIESEL

How to remove manifold:
Look at manifold.
Remove all fasteners from items preventing removal.
With your hands remove said items.
Remove all fasteners securing manifold to engine and other parts.
Grasp manifold with hands and remove from engine.
Place on work bench.

The above also works for many other parts on tractor.

Having the bolts break is a no no. Take your time, heat them up one at a time get them to move slightly, get oil around them, maybe atf. Take your time and get them to
thread out and clean the opening which you might have done a few times by now. As far as the manifold, unless your trying to save it, a metal blade on a sawsall and what
ever you have to do to get room to work.
