Thanks for the suggestions. The best one was probably to read the manual which I did. Indeed they do describe a method of getting the levers in and out of park. Engage first gear. Move range lever to the left, then forward, then to the right. To disengage, apply brakes, move range lever to the left, then back, then right. I will try this and try to remember to report back. We have been using this tractor on the pto grain auger this harvest and its been great. Very economical on fuel. And so easy steering when it comes to lining up the auger over the bin lid. Easy to reach controls from the ground having no cab.
