I dont have any trouble planting no till beans into standing corn stalks. I have shark tooth Floating row cleaners With air cylinders on them. It works great cleaning the row but sometimes trash falls back over the row After the seed goes in the ground or the ever present Iowa wind blows trash back over the row later. The trash over the row keeps the ground cool so the beans are slower to come up in those places. It does not seem to bother beans much to have uneven emergence but corn is a different story. This is where no till corn on corn runs into trouble. The later emerging corn plants that were under the trash will be the runt pig for the rest of the season. The neighbors field across the fence from me has been continuous no till corn for at least the last five years. The first month after it is planted the field looks as uneven and sick as any field can be. This cannot be good for yield in the fall. It looks good now after the plants are all even height but the damage is done. As much as I like no till it looks like continuous corn still needs to be turned black or nearly black every year. Here farther west in Iowa cover crops are still hit and miss too.
