Here is my idea to fix your leak issue take it or leave it. It would be ideal if you could reseal the inner end of the tube but trying that would probably be a futile effort. A bead of RTV around the axle where it meets the housing will seal it if applied to a clean surface. This means hand wire brushed clean, cleaned with brake clean on a rag, then sprayed with brake clean and dried with compressed air. The problem is you will likely be driving through weeds maybe brush etc. and this may dislodge the RTV bead. My suggestion is to apply the RTV and then place a guillotine style exhaust clamp (see link) on the tube tight up against the housing. You may need to relieve (grind) some of the stamped steel part of the clamp to get it as close to the housing as possible. I would suggest that the clamp nuts face up. I feel pretty certain this would be a fairly long term fix. Also in my opinion there is no issue with your axle that should keep you from just replacing what it needs and reassemble. Occasionally differential parts and gears just break.

I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point
