Our class was given a tour of the city�s local backup generator plant. This is one of 5 generators they have. Most of them are 3000 hp and 2000 kw. Seems like a little under powered considering we always liked to have 2hp/kw with a pto driven one, but then again these are stationary with no transmission or hydraulics robbing power. I think they said this engine is an early 60�s Merlin V16. When you walk around the catwalk you notice there�s no valve pans. They manually grease the rockers and they�re 4 valve per cylinder. They said if the dipstick is down an inch it takes 55 gallons to top it up. They have 2 newer kohlers with V 16 Cats and a V12 cummins.
