Dad worked as a hired hand in the 1930's for Marion Roegen near Ridgeway, Ia. Part of his chores was to plow with the D. When he got too cold he walked along beside the tractor which kept itself true in the furrow while the right front wheel lightly rode the furrow wall. Such a short wheel base tractor, how could they keep the front end down? later 40 hp row crops had to have engine and a lot of cast iron way out front to keep them down.
