Posted by JD Seller on July 14, 2019 at 22:18:50 from (208.126.198.213):

I have a JD 4755 MFWD that we bought several years ago. Really a clean tractor, with under 3000 hours on it. The trouble is after we updated finishers two years ago it is too small to run them. So it is too big for most of the work we do but not big enough for the tillage work anymore. We have put maybe 20 hours on it in the last year.

A dealer friend, that I dealt with for years, wants the JD 4755. He would rather trade some equipment over straight out buying the tractor. The only equipment he currently has that is of interest to me, are a couple of JD 568 round balers. They are supper clean and very low bale count balers. The two balers would be about even in value to the tractor.

My thinking. We do not "need" the balers right now. We are going to replace one of our balers this winter. I like the JD 568 balers over the new JD 560M balers. They have changed some structural stuff on the new balers. Plus the monitors are way more complicated on them. I want the JD 560M balers to get the bugs out before we move up to them. So the one baler would be just switched out six month sooner, so good deal there. The trouble is the other baler really is not needed for several years. I am not worried about storing it. Block the tires up and lock the tension arm up so the belts are lose an it would store fine. The baler setting is better than a tractor setting. Also a JD 568 with a super low bale count is not going to be easy to find in the future. The only trouble is I do not like high value equipment setting doing nothing. I Know I Know, I have other tractors that have high values not getting used much either. The only difference is they are the size we use but just are not being used currently. I am not going to put a clean JD 4455 on a feeder wagon when we have a perfectly good JD 4430 on it right now. Five years from now that might change.

The deal I would do right now would be trade one baler and draw the balance in cash. He does not want to do that at the moment. I really do not want/need any of the other equipment he currently has because it a worse "fit" for us than the JD 4755. Mostly too high in value, too new or too big for our tastes.

The collector bug in me wants to keep the JD 4755 and find a JD 4955 to complete the set of 55 series tractors. LOL Not happening unless I hit the Lotto.

Either way there is no hurry to complete any "deal". We have second crop hay done. The balers we have are fine for now. The JD 4755 is not eating much. So I might just forget the whole thing. What do you think????

Today's Featured Article - The Day Mom Drove the 8N - by Brian Browning. My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
