Live or independant PTO [introduced by Oliver in 1946] permits any pto driven item such as a bush hog to continue operating regardless of gear or clutch position. A seperate lever must be used to engage the pto in most tractors with out this feature a bush hog would remain engaged and the energy built up by a spinning hog would continue to propel the tractor while the clutch was disengaged.
