Live pto of some version is much prefered. If you have/get a tractor without it, every time you step on the clutch, the pto equipment will also stop. If you are baling or blowing snow, this means you will not be able to stop moving to allow 'bunches & slugs of material' to run through the machine. Also, you can not easily start up the machine & then start moving forward - you start both the machine & forward motion at the same time. Without live pto, you need an over running clutch ($70 item) on your pto to operate safely with many implements. Look up 'ocr' or such in the archives for a lot of info on these issues. There is also 'live hydraulics' which is similar to the pto issue, all hydralic action stops when you push in the clutch without live hydraulics. Not good for loader work, etc. Various models of tractors did not have live pto well into the 70's at least, so you need to look at the individual tractor to be sure. --->Paul
