My cousin that is sadly no longer with us, told me that once on an 8n or 9n tractor that was a 'plug' and not going to be restored, he torched off the bottom of the brake backing plate (an inch or so), and told the owner to throw a handfull of fine dust in there every once in a while to soak up the grease.
The brakes were probably nothing to brag about after that, but at least the dirt would absorb the grease.
