First tractor on the farm was a Farmall F-12 that was purchased by my great uncle, then he had a John Deere A. When he sold the farm to my grandpa, his brother, the tractors were also sold. My grandpa, after buying the farm from his brother, then bought an RC Allis Chalmers. Grandpa and dad used that tractor for several years, clearing land, plowing a few acres, etc. When grandpa started full time dairy farming, the RC was traded in for an almost new D-14 Allis Chalmers. The D-14 is still here on the farm. Also, an 861 Ford was bought, along with a new line of hay equipment including a 3pt mower, a Nixon brand wheel rake, and a Ferguson square baler. We still have the Ford, and use it regularly, the mower is wore out, but still here, and the baler and rake are gone. Dad’s first tractor he bought on his own was an 841 Case comfort king. It was the big tractor of the neighborhood then, and along with the 841 came a 4 bottom plow, 12ft disc, and a 5600 Heston round baler. The 841 is still here, and used pretty regularly, the implements have been upgraded over the years. The last tractor grandpa bought was an Allis Chalmers 170. That tractor was actually bought by my grandma. Grandpa new he needed a bigger tractor, but couldn’t bring himself to spend the money. Grandma and dad went to the dealer and bought it. Grandpa never saw it until the day it was delivered, but it soon became his pride and joy. He used that tractor for just about everything for 3 years before passing away unexpectedly. That tractor is also still on the farm and used very regularly. My brother and I have had quite a few tractors come and go, and have several bigger and newer ones today, but those “original 4”, the Allis D-14, Ford 861, Case 841, Allis Chalmers 170 are here to stay.
