The BIG tank was used for either kerosene or distillate. The small tank was for gasoline. I think ALL the W30s, F30s, F20s, etc. had that same style of tank, regardless of the year.
The later, letter series of IH did have the option of distillate, kerosene, or gasoline only, but again, it was not connected to the year of manufacture.
