Warmed engine could be made to run on jet fuel, kerosene, diesel at times. A new car with warmed engine that gets topped up with diesel can often be run home and on long trips may be driven couple hundred miles to get under 1/4 tank of fuel before topping up with proper gasoline- click and clack had couple examples of that with rental cars, mistaken hose grabbed by new drivers. Hessleman engine had fuel injectors, moderate compression and sparkplugs- ran on kerosene, diesel with gas start up. Waukeshaw made the engine for some tractors, generator, some military uses. SAAB-Scania trucks and some other off road equipment used same design up to 1980, 1990s before pollution laws made them impractical- advantage was cold weather using mixed gasoline with diesel instead of straight diesel compression ignition. England post WW2 tax laws had farm diesel taxed same as road- but heating oil wasn't taxed and that lead to a TVO burning engine in tractor, conversions to TVO (Tractor Volatizing Oil) with 75% untaxed heating oil 15% gasoline with tax and some diesel or variations of 855 oil, 14% gasoline and a splash of lube oil like 2 stroke or some naptha or other light fuel. Ford forum has some thread on that. English farm tax exemption for diesel was some time in 1970s(?) and then the straight diesel tractor became economically viable. Mix 50/50 cheapest unleaded gasoline with diesel and many of old distillate/dual fuel tractor can run, might need a shot of straight gasoline to prime in winter. RN
