My wife went there a few years ago.....she made the 4 day walk from Cusco to the Sunrise Gate in Macchu... you have to be in good health and physical condition to do so as some elevations were close to 10,000 feet. There are bus/ train tours to get to the site as well, but the walk was truly incredible, hers was organized through a tour group that provides porters, meals and facilities while you do the walk. Simply spectacular simply cannot describe it she says. You would be best to spend a few days in Cusco to reduce the chances of altitude sickness. It is a chance of a lifetime to go. She went with a mission group to Peru, promoting health and nutrition, and Macchu was a side adventure.I stayed home and farmed. :( Ben
