Nick sent me some pics of his current x-rays today. He got the ok to go back to work with no limits today. He is really looking forward to climbing again. Here are his current x-rays.

You can still see the thin parts in the bone where the breaks were, but healing is going well. He sent me a video of his arm movement which is much better than expected since one muscle that turns the arm is not hooked up. At this point they are not going to do the other surgery to re-attatch it because his movement is so close to normal. I couldn't link his video but took some screen shots to show the limits of his movement.

He's very happy with his progress and so am I!

The insurance problems are ongoing tho. The disability insurance that he thought he would get didn't come through because the company "forgot " to add it to his contract, so no disability. Also no unemployment since he was welcome to go back to work whenever he was ready. And the girl's auto insurance will pay, but the max payout will be less that the medical bills will be. His medical will pay what ever the girls won't, so he won't have that to pay at least, but there will be nothing to cover his time off. That means he is out 2 months wages, a huge blow to him just as he was getting going well. But he is back to work now and between us and some of his friends he has managed to keep everything. He came real close to being evicted tho.

On a side note, his company recently had a visit from the "Big Boss" from Chicago. When he got to Nick and asked how things were going Nick suggested that it would be easier to show him, so they toured some sites together. At one site Nick pointed out the the Il. group directed every site to hire a crane to do a certain job, but by doing it themselves without the crane even tho it would add a day to the project by not hiring a crane, they could save about $8,000.00/site with hundreds of sites nation wide. The boss got out his calculator and did the math and said "no, your wrong, it's only $7800.00 savings". When they got back to the office the boss implimented the new policy and anounced that Nick was a valuable employee to the whole office. So it looks like, at least for a while, his job is safe. Nick still can't believe that he had that much sway with the company considering how little time he has with them.

So things are going well now, and things are about back to normal for him. And we both thank everyone for the concern and kind comments throughout his ordeal!

Today's Featured Article - The Nuts and Bolts of Fasteners - Part 2 - by Curtis Von Fange. In our previous article we discussed capscrews, bolts, and nuts along with their relative hardness and thread sizes. In this segment we will finish up on our fasteners and then work with ways to keep them from loosening up in the field. Capscrews, bolts and nuts are not the only means of holding two parts together. When dealing with thinner metals like sheet tin, a long bolt and ... [Read Article]
