My ex-sister-in-law (my brother's ex-wife) got the shingles a few months ago. She lost all of her vision in one eye and about half of her vision in the other eye. She is in her mid-50s. They have been telling her that her vision loss is permanent. After seeing what it can do, my wife and I are seriously thinking about getting the shingles vaccine. She researched it and found out that it can only be given by a doctor's prescription, so by the time we pay the doctor's fees and the cost of the medicine (which, BTW, is always advertised on TV, so you KNOW it will be priced very high), we've put off getting the vaccine until next year.
