The more I read here about the Salvation army, the more I am confused. Do they get paid, do they volunteer and no pay. I don't know but I do know I will not give the red cross a dime. When I was totally broke a couple days before Christmas in 1957 while in the Army, I tried to borrow twenty bucks from Red Cross until pay day. Nope, I had been fully paid last pay day. No mix up or short pay. Thing is I had to move to a different trailer park, cost a few extra dollars so we were broke. The only one eating good was the baby but wife could not keep up the flow very long without food. My friend happened to stop by. He had seven dollars. Loaned me half . He had a charge account at gas station, filled the car as I had walked to church because gauge was on empty and for food, macaroni lasts for quite a few days. Paid him back and we made it, no red cross.
