I had a cheap 4x4 treated post outside my kitchen window for 15 years. Had a bird house on top. Ground is sand. Good drainage.
25 years ago, I had a privacy fence installed. The guy I hired set post in concrete. They are still standing. Perhaps I need to remove some of the dirt around post and take a look-see.
Makes one ask, what is the life expectancy of pole barn posts? I had barn termite treated when I built it. Posts are in dirt, a wet clay. I know for a fact, treated lumber isn't what it used to be.
Also, my termite man says that if wood is in contract with dirt long enough, termites will eat it. I've even seen termites eat RR ties, cedar wood chips and treated lumber, the old good stuff. So what good is laminated posts?
