You may find the information useful on this webpage as far as treatments and ratings, applications and so on. Conditions vary so much, its hard to say or comment. I've dealt with all kinds of CCA lumber back in the day, mostly .40 and .60 CCA. Used to pick up this lumber fresh out of the treatment plant, click on link2 for more reading.

Ironically, we had a stack of 6x6x18's here, that never got used, not sure what the deal was, but at one time there was a building planned, a riding arena, so they sat from the late 70's stacked, until about '06, when I used them before the carpenter ants got any further into them. Holbrook mark on them, been outside, above ground for 26 years. When they were real dry I coated the ground contact ends with creosote, had some left over from who knows when. I put these posts in, one was questionable, but I needed something in the hole, I just pulled that one and the bottom was just fine, 8 years in this soil, mind you on a hill and no water issues, but thinking of the age of these, hard to imagine. Some of them were ruined by the ants, however those ants were selective as to what ones they got into, most they did not touch, they are strange like that, even in a stack of lumber, they are often times contained on one board, not the entire stack. Same year as I did these, power company put up creosote treated poles, big ones for an upgrade on the lines here across our land, 30,000 volt lines next to the 115,000 volt lines and one of those new post immediately had carpenter ants and still does today 9 years later, go figure? Osomose used to go around and test and or dig up the base of posts, there was a monitoring system, and they would nail a tag with the year on the post, we had some here until '06 from the '30's, all the bottoms were fine ! Go figure again.

I tried to post photos of the ones I treated, and set, YT changed something, enough time wasted, if anyone knows whats going on, or its posted elsewhere as to what is different, I missed it.

Today's Featured Article - Seeing an Old Friend - by Joe Evans. Dad had a concrete contracting business starting in 1960. One of his first pieces of equipment was a Ferguson TO-35 with a Davis loader. Dad replaced the TO-35 with a MF 202 Workbull, essentially an industrialized Ferguson 35 I am told. Dad bought the 202 new in 1962, and I recall quite clearly going to the dealer with him to sign for it. ... [Read Article]
