I was just petting one of the three dogs we have that are mainly outside dogs. Meaning they only come inside at night. I felt a bump on the dog's back. I found a LARGE blood filled wood tick on his back. What!!!!! We have had single digit lows for temperatures here. Yesterday afternoon being one of those times. So how could he have a wood tick on him???
He also is a very friendly dog so he is petted everyday. This tick was right on the top of his back. So I would have felt it before if it had been there for weeks.
I bagged the tick. It does seem to be not right. It is moving very slowly. Even when they are this big they usual wiggle their legs a lot.
I wonder if the dog might have picked this fellow up out of straw/hay in the barns??? The dogs do sleep in the barns during the day.
Here is a picture. Not the best but as you can see that tick is "FULL" LOL did not do him much good!!!!
