JD, I went to Advance Auto to check out purolator filters. Advance is the only car place to carry purloator. Well this is getting confusing for me. Purolator shows the same number,L10241 for my briggs and kohler filter, while showing a different number, L14476, to replace the OEM kaw filter. I looked down inside the purolator filter, L14476, and didn't see a pressure relief valve. My oem briggs and kohler filters don't have a relief valve either. The oem kaw filter, 49065-2071 does.
I'm no expert when it comes to filters, I've learned more about filters in the past few days, thanks to all on YT, than I really cared to know. However, isn't very important for filters to have a relief valve, especially when it's sub zero and the oil is thick?
If I were to get just one filter, the stens 120-634, will work all 3 of my engines, the kohler, briggs and kaw, I think stens is back in the horse race, especially because it has a relief valve and the rest don't have one.
Any idea why purolator shows a different number for briggs/kohler vs kaw, while stens shows just one number?
