A little O/T question

A friend has a 200? 1 ton truck the kills the battery in about 2-3 days. Brand new battery and has tried 3 of them. Any how I played with it a little tonight. With the + battery cable off and you hook a meter from the cable to the battery you get battery voltage. So ya there is a draw but he also has a clock and a brake box for a trailoer so ya it should have a little draw. I also tried to do a amp reading and my meter can read up to 10 amps so with the cable off and hooked up from the cable to the battery you get a reading of 0.04 amps which should not be enough to drain the battery. So I'm I doing this test right or am I lost on this one?
