great question. at age 66, 6'3" and 210 lbs. with limited mobility i traded down from a full size gmc to a tacoma. gmc difficult to get in cab and bed due to height off ground but had a lot of interior space. gmc extended cab had blind spots to the side toward the rear and length made it difficult in parking lots. so tacoma easier to access cab and bed, easier to see out of and better in tight spaces. less room in cab even though it is a 4 door. overall suits me better. now to answer your question; the ford crown victoras and the old chevy impalas probably built for the older generation at the time.
