I have a Maytag Side by Side and the freezer evaporator froze solid. So the temp in the freezer just at freezing and the Ref at about 55 Deg F. Just use the refer section for cold drinks in the basement but the freezer is important (lots of frozen homemade soups). I have attached a pic of what I believe is the evaporator orifice. At one time there was some putty type material (kind of the consistency of chewed gum)as you can see it has fallen off and gotten all over the coils. What do you think this stuff would be called and is there a substitute that may be found at the big box stores? Not sure of the temps it needs to endure due to the auto defrost feature (that may not be working too well).
