The internal magneto coil failed and some one just put on a battery ign coil and unhooked the internal coil. And I will just add this also, that magneto has a distributor on it. Otherwise it could not distribute the spark in sequence to the four cylinders. Only magnetos that do not have distributors on them are on what is called wasted spark systems, and even battery ignition units can be without a distributor. You can get a new coil for mag for about 50 bucks.
