Magneto Question...

Hey All...
I just bought a 1449 Farmall-H according to the vin... It's runs fine well need to work on the carb... Looks like it's got a heavy float or a bad needle or seat...Back to the Megneto somebody along the line had a problem with the megneto and installed a coil and ran a wire from the points to the negative side of the coil and positive wire to the positive side of the coil and made it work...I have not even got it home yet just did a field inspection... I am going to mark the megneto and the rotor were is seats right now and jurk it off to look inside see what is going on...I'm sure it is a bad connection or a grounded wire that is causing the problem... Has anyone here ever had a uncommon problem with a megneto that I should know about...or can give some tips what to look for...(Megneto number H41233255)
Oh almost forgot...I have a Farmall-B. I had pulled the megnito from it a long time ago can't even remember what for. I was talking to my brother and had the megneto in my hand without the coil cover on it, I was holding it from the top I spun the megneto drive gear with my other hand and it knocked the crap out off me when it fired...I'm going to do the same thing with this one when it knocks the crap out of me I'll know it's working fine...LOL...Thanks Raner...

There is an easier way to test a magneto and you can keep all of the crap on the inside. I have seen several made into a distributor and have made up a couple for myself. Most likely you can replace the magneto coil and make it back to a magnet. I am running a cub made up that way.

Thanks for the comeback 60 acre hillside...
I will mess with megneto last since it's running fine...Priority repairs I have to do...Cab, steering shaft ujoints...on/off switch...When I go to tune it up then I'll check it out...I keep you all posted as to what I found...

The internal magneto coil failed and some one just put on a battery ign coil and unhooked the internal coil. And I will just add this also, that magneto has a distributor on it. Otherwise it could not distribute the spark in sequence to the four cylinders. Only magnetos that do not have distributors on them are on what is called wasted spark systems, and even battery ignition units can be without a distributor. You can get a new coil for mag for about 50 bucks.

Thanks Pete 23...
Yes it has a distributor...looks like the one on B farmall that one is working so I got some parts to check the one on the H with if the coils are the same...looks like the coil cover on the H has the broken peace of the coil wire stuck in it...
That could be the reason for the added coil will see...
