I have done it, but not on a busy road or anywhere it would remotely cause a safety problem.
In reality, you just can't stop in these places, its not worth it, as much as you want to help, think of the grave consequences for you and others.
Some go out of there way to mash the turtle, or wildlife, I've seen that too.
