I know the slant 6 was not a flathead. Just an example of how using only one measurement on a block can cause problems.
Interesting side-note: the slant-6 was meant to have an open-deck aluminum block with steel sleeves. They couldn't get the aluminum to flow properly in the molds, so they modified some of the molds to cast them in iron until they could figure out the aluminum. Which never happened in the slant 6's 30-35 year production run.
