I've maintained a fleet of Clark forklifts that had a wet starter. The engine in these lime-green forklifts was a Waukesha. Seriously, the design was marginal when it was new and eventually the seal would start to leak. Then you always have a starter that is dripping oil out the end of the starter. And you always had to use some RTV on the starter nose cone so that section wouldn't leak. We always had several starters in inventory and if you want a real hassle, try to return some starters that have sat in inventory for a year because the factory forgot to install the wet seal.
