That's a story both of them will fondly look back on for a while.
As for why people don't put usable items out for those who can use them,who knows but It's probably because of one of many conviluted notions that some have.
An investor bought a place adjoining land I owned. I had mowed both places to keep them within city ordainance and ocasionaly baled them if the grass was good. I called the new owner to offer him the same no cost to him aggrement as I had with previouse owner. He would not have been less receptive if I had offered keeping his wife company when he was out of town. He would allow it to go until the city sent a warning then hire my neighbor to mow it. Mom called those kind of decisions "cutting your nose off to spite your face".
