With a Perkins, probably as simple as put in a battery and turn the key. Started a combine last year that had a 318 Perkins in it, had been sitting for at least 10 years. I climbed up on top, dropped fresh battery in it. My dad got in the cab and was supposed to crank it while I hit her with either. I gave him the thumbs up to crank, and immediately turned to give it either, but it was already running.
Might be a good idea to crank it with the shut off pulled for 30 seconds to get some oil splashed around before she fires.
