there might be a rule on those in some easters states, but i think this is a case of him either trying to get the trailer for much less, or he;s repeating what his cousine's uncles dad told him one time, here the way i see this issue, i have 2 trailers with these axles, both have been around since moses was here but what we did to them, was replace the wheel bearings with quality bearings and seals then replace the tires stamped 'for mobile home use' with tires stamped 'for lowboy use' these tires are heavier, and much better quality i think where some states are ruling on this is that the mobilt home tires are a cheap light duty tire designed basicly to transport the home 1 or 2 times in its life, they are prone to blow out, especially if run underinflated, this can lead to an accident if the trailer using them is being pulled by somebody who is not used to handeling trailers, the longest trip i have used my 3 axle trailer for is a 1,000 mile trip to deliver a pickup truck, the pickup weighed app 4500 lbs the trip was in july, hot as hades, the trailer tires were inflated to 65psi, we used the ratcheting type binders and chain to secure the truck on the trailer, which is a home made unit and heavy as heck, we had no problems with either the trailer or truck during the entire trip, neither did the law bother us when they looked us over passing thru towns or on the road, we did not stop at ports of entry as this trip was not for hire, just family business, i dont see any issues with these axle equiped trailers, as long as they have the upgraded tires on them
